International Documentary film festival

19th edition – Palermo 1/7 July 2024

The Sole Luna Doc Film Festival had its debut in 2006 in Palermo and will reach its nineteenth edition in 2024. During the year, it also develops part of its activities on the national territory by collaborating with partner associations and festivals and carries out many activities in Italian schools, academies and universities.

It is an international festival that aims to bring to the attention of the widest possible audience original and courageous points of view on unknown or little-known realities. An event capable of uniting and encouraging the meeting between people, ideas, perspectives and perspectives through the author’s documentary.

The association Sole Luna-A bridge between cultures, the festival’s producer, is a non-profit organization whose main purpose is to promote documentary filmmaking and independent cinema and to enhance new talents also through training courses organized by the experts in the field.

All events and screenings are free.

 

CALL FOR ENTRIES 2024

Documentary films of any length, produced after 1st January 2022, will be able to enter the competition, which tell stories of the world of today and yesterday, human experiences of journeys and contacts, urban and rural contexts, violations of human and land rights, concrete examples or proposals for solutions to environmental and humanitarian crises.

 

Call for entries will be open from 1st December 2023 to 15th  March 2024.

The submission to the festival is free.

 

INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

SECTIONS

FEATURE FILMS

Documentary films lasting more than 30 minutes.

SHORTS

Documentary films lasting equal or less than 30 minutes.

OTHER SECTIONS

The Direction and the Selection Committee will identify the films they deem suitable for other sections envisaged by the program such as Out of Competition, Collateral Events, and Retrospectives.

 

PRIZES AND JURY

A qualified international jury will assign:

 to the best feature film in competition the prize of €3.000,00

 to the best short film in competition the prize of €500,00

the OIKOS Award of € 1.000,00 to the film that best addresses issues related to the environment, ecosystems and the fight against climate change

 

They will also assign a special mention to the films for:

the best direction

the best photography

the best editing

the best soundtrack

The “Bridge Between Cultures” Award will be assigned by the president of the association to the film that best expresses the values of solidarity and communication between people, whose promotion represents the aim of the Association.
