Straddling two pandemics and two full moons, it is a documentary about the relationship between scientific thought and magical one, told through the Pinna Nobilis, the largest bivalve in the Mediterranean. Also known as the “Sentinel of Mediterranean”, it exceeds the height of a meter, at risk of disappearing for a pandemic disease. The narration sets a parallelism between the current Covid-19 emergency and that one of the Mediterranean and Pinna Nobilis. Nobilis Golden Moon is a personal and partially autobiographical reportage, shot astride the full moons of July and August 2020, in Valencia and in Sant’Antioco. In these two places, in the moonlight, Mariagrazia (director/narrator) learns the scientific and esoteric point of view about Pinna Nobilis, and much more…

This is the story of a 90-year-old Balinese fisherman, Wayan, who can no longer fish because of the vast amount of plastic pollution in the ocean. Wayan instead uses his fishing boat and net to collect trash from the ocean in hopes of one day being able to fish again. The story is a glimpse into how one human is using his resources to make a difference and a reminder that if we all play our part, we can accomplish something much greater than ourselves.

Every year, 640,000 tonnes of fishing nets are abandoned in the oceans. According to annual reports by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the data is increasing. In the Mediterranean, ghost nets are covering larger areas of underwater walls or shoals causing a gradual destruction of all life forms. This is why it is necessary to plan and start removal operations. Missione Euridice is the idea of Andrea and Marco Spinelli, two Sicilian brothers who love the sea: Andrea is a marine biologist at the Oceanographic Institute in Valencia; while Marco is a documentary filmmaker, with a special interest in the environment. Together they removed a tonne of abandoned nets from the coast of Cefalù.

In collaboration with the ecologist association Mare Vivo, we will present an educational meeting on microplastics with Antonio Ragusa, author of the book Nati con la camicia… di plastica (Aboca edizioni, 2021), which tells how microplastics are already present in the placenta of the womb. The work Madre Plastica by Fabrizia Capostagno, winner of the first edition of the Marine Litter Art competition, will be exhibited on this occasion.
