Firouzeh_KhosrovaniFirouzeh Khosrovani

Born in Tehran, Firouzeh Khosrovani settled in Italy to pursue her artistic studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera. After graduating in 2002, she returned to Iran and acquired her Master’s degree in Journalism.
She made her debut as a filmmaker in 2004 with Life Train. In 2007, she directed Rough Cut, followed in 2008 by Cutting Off, an installation and video art piece for the Triennale di Milano. Her 1001 Irans (2010) was a documentary about the image of Iran, outside of Iran. In 2011, she collaborated with three directors from three different continents on Espelho Meu, which won the Best National Documentary award in Documenta Madrid. In 2012, she directed Iran, Unveiled and Veiled Again, produced by Istituto Luce, Cinecittà, in Rome. In 2014, she participated in a collective project, Profession: Documentarist. Last work is Fest of Duty, a documentary about a religious ceremony in Iran designed to instil Islamic beliefs and values into girls when they reach the age of nine.


massironiGianni Massironi
After his degree in Sociology at the University of Trento, he attended the ‘Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia’ (Experimental Cinematography Centre), head up by Roberto Rossellini, where he obtained his director’s diploma.
In 1978 he started a lifelong collaboration with Michelangelo Antonioni, for whom he produced three projects: ‘Antonioni visto da Antonioni’, ‘Ritorno a Lisca Bianca’ and ‘Frate Francesco’. As a filmmaker he directed a series of TV programs for European broadcastings, such as: ‘Il Circolo immaginario: Bloomsbury’, for the series ‘Uomini e idee del ‘900’ (Men and ideas of the XIX century) ‘Assistenza ed Esistenza’, ‘Casta Diva’ and, from a letter of Roland Barthes, ‘Caro Antonioni…’, the most complete reconstruction of work and life of this great Master. He regularly collaborates as a screenwriter with the Oscar winner Mark Peploe.


MateraVincenzo Matera

Vincenzo Matera, anthropologist, teaches at the Department of Sociology and Social Research at the University of Milano Bicocca. He deals with anthropological theory and anthropology of communication, studies creolisation processes, multiple identities, the work of imagination in contemporary societies. He did a research on migrant artists working in Milan. He writes in the blogs of Corriere.it, La città nuova and La 27Ora.
Among his books, La scrittura etnografica. Esperienza e rappresentazione nella produzione di conoscenze antropologiche, Eléuthera, 2015; Antropologia contemporanea. La diversità culturale in un mondo globale, Laterza, 2017.


peploeMark Peploe

Director and screenwriter, he was born in Kenya in 1943. He spent his childhood in London, Florence and Greece. He studied International Relations at Magdalen College, Oxford. In 1965-69, he realized documentaries on Oscar Niemeyer, Vaserely, Max Frisch, Melina Mercouri and the struggle against the Greek dictatorship. In 1970, his first screenplay was a Western for Joseph Losey (never made).
As a scenarist has worked with Jacques Demy for The Pied Piper (1972), Rene Clement for The Baby sitter (1975), Michelangelo Antonioni for Professione reporter (1975) and with his brother-in-law Bernardo Bertolucci for L’ultimo imperatore (1987) awarded with the Oscar for the best adapted screenplay, Il tè nel deserto (1990), Piccolo Buddha (1993).
Peploe wrote his sister Clare’s romantic comedy High Season (1987) and made his feature directing debut with Afraid of the Dark (1991), a psychological thriller about a boy with failing eyesight which he also wrote. In 1997, he wrote and directed Victory from the novel by Joseph Conrad, filmed in Indonesia with Willem Dafoe and Irene Jacob.


SpinelliItalo Spinelli

Italo Spinelli lives in Rome and he is theatre, film and television director, founder and director of “Asiaticafilmmediale”, a film festival dedicated to Asian cinema, which has been held in Rome since 2000. He directed over 20 theatre performances, he was the assistant director of Luca Ronconi from 1977 to 1979 and he taught cinema and theatre at the University of Siena.
Founding member of the Warburg Italy centre, he also edited the “India” and “Indonesia” terms for the Treccani Cinema Encyclopedia and the volume Indian Summer. Films, Filmmakers and Stars between Ray and Bollywood, Olivares editions. Documentary director, especially focused on Asia and its social reality and cinema, as well as reportages with writers including Mario Vargas Llosa, Amitav Ghosh, Gregory Roberts. Among his films we especially remember Gangor, in competition at the International Film Festival of Rome (2010); Awarded in over ten International Festivals.
