XII edition

The Sole Luna Doc Film Festival, which had its debut in 2006 in Palermo has been also succesfully held in Treviso since 2014. The 2016 edition of the festival in Treviso recorded more than 8,000 participants. It is an event that, through the cinema of reality, is able to unite and promote the encounter between people, ideas, perspectives, and looks through the auteur documentaries, and bring to the attention of the widest possible audience original points of view on brave reality known or little known.

SOLE LUNA TREVISO DOC FILM FESTIVAL will be held from September 11th to 17th 2017 in the heart of the city of Treviso, proposing a full program of documentary films, exhibitions, meetings with writers, master classes, concerts and presentations of cultural projects.

Sections in competition:

There are two sections in competition: Human Rights and The Journey. The documentaries will be selected among the films from around the world which will be submitted through the entry form online from November 1st 2016 to February 1st, 2017.

Human rights are commonly understood as inalienable fundamental rights to which a person is inherently entitled simply because she or he is a human being. This section is considering documentaries that enlighten crisis and problematic situation in the world where the Human Rights and the human dignity are not respected.

There will be considered in this section documentaries that tell stories of peoples, people and landscapes, deeply interconnected with “nature” and “culture”. This showcase in competition will be a focus on the journey intended as essential dimension for human beings and as their constitutive feature being “plural identities”.

The jury Città di Treviso will assign the Sole Luna Award* to the Best Documentary in competition and a jury of musicians and experts will assign the Soundrivemotion award to the best soundtrack. There will be also other two juries: the Jury of the school consisting of teachers and school students of Treviso and the Dams Jury consisting of students of cinema of the DAMS in Padua. There will be also the Audience Award.
The association Sole Luna – un ponte tra le culture will assign the Rubino Rubini Award, in memory of the director who was also the co-founder of the festival.

Sections out of competition:
For this fourth edition we propose three events where cinema tells about taste, food and environment. Each film will be connected to a subject developed through a panel discussion with experts and tastings of products.

The films chosen for this section are about biographies of musicians and stories related to the musical world. Together with the “Music in Doc” showcase there will be some special events and a workshop in collaboration with Soundrivemotion on sound design and soundtrack in the documentary cinema.

The school project for Treviso was created to develop a stable relationship over time between the Association Sole Luna and the local schools.
During the school year 2016/17 Sole Luna will promote activities related to cinema (showcases with the films of the festival, workshops) involving the Mazzotti Technical Institute, Duca degli Abruzzi teacher training school, the State Arts high school, and the Leonardo Da Vinci Scientific High School with the aim of achieving other high schools in the Province of Treviso in the future.

Another project that will involve the schools is #crearelegami video contest for students of high schools on issues such as solidarity, integration, openness, friendship, knowledge, exchange.
The project will be carried out in collaboration with the associations Altermind and Soundrivemotion.

The activities will take place in Treviso also during the year and the association Sole Luna – Un ponte tra le culture has collaborated with various associations of the town in order to create an active network of exchanges and to organize events such as the showcase “Incontrart – documentari sull’arte contemporanea” in cooperation with TRA-Treviso Ricerca Arte, the program of documentaries dedicated to sustainability within the Fiera4Passi and the day dedicated to human rights LGBT together with Amnesty International at the Fondazione Benetton Treviso within the Pride event in 2016.
Since this year the festival has contributed to the creation of the Treviso Festival network which has led to mutual cooperation in particular with the two autumn festivals: TCBF, illustration and comics festival, and Carta Carbone, festival of autobiographical literature.
