The film traces the director’s family history. Firouzeh Khosrovani, daughter of a secular father and a practicing Muslim mother, is the product of the conflict between secularism and Islamic ideology in Iran. Her parents’ relationship goes through many decades: from the Shah’s era to the Islamic Revolution, passing through the Iran-Iraq war, to the present day. In her family, as in many others, the effects of the Islamic revolution have affected every aspect of everyday life. While the father continues to listen to Bach, the mother devotes herself to religious activism, eliminating from the house playing cards and photos of women without hijabs. Through photographs, letters and voices from the past, the director tells her childhood, the story of a divided family and a torn daughter. Her private history becomes a metaphor for the changes in Iranian society over the past forty years.
