Submissions for the 2021 Sole Luna Doc Film Festival now open

INTERNATIONAL JURY'S AWARDS
Best film
La nostra strada, Pierfrancesco Li Donni
"La nostra strada" is a central, yet forgotten corner of Palermo, in a neighbourhood that condenses the problems of a whole city. At the same time, however, "La nostra strada" is also everyone's way and the glimpse of life that the film tells - through the experiences of a group of teenagers - actually belongs to many other corners of the world, more or less close to us.
The prize for the Best Documentary goes to Pierfrancesco Li Donni's "La nostra strada", for the strength of a story that is both individual and choral, for the simplicity and clarity of the language that the film experiences.
Special mention
Mrs. F., Chris van der Vorm
In the ever changing uncertainty of our present neo-global community the desire to honor exceptional people remains unchanged. Mrs. F. through the antic art of theater and dance transforms willing participants into strong and courageous figures that become capable of speaking up and fighting oppression inside their community. With style, Chris van der Vorm, designs a film that is as strong as its leading character and as moving as the fragility of the young protagonists discovering their strength and beauty.
Best short doc
Aagaswadi, Ramesh Laxmanrao Holbole
Documentary Cinema and cunning cinematography used as a tool for awareness can be a remedy : Identifying the problem, proposing solutions.
With visual grace, Aagwasadi documents aspects of our industrial economy driven present revealing them as a universal problem - and for those who are listening the opportunity to explore solutions.
Best direction
Village of women, Tamara Stepanyan
In Armenia there is a village inhabited, for most of the year, by women only. Men live and work in Russia. The village waits for them like the relentless alternation of the seasons is awaited. Another woman joins those women: the director of the film, who follows the life of the village with its everyday and recurring gestures, for over a year.
The award for best direction goes to "The village of women" by Tamara Stephanyan for the complex game of looks (both inside and outside the story) that the film manages to build, returning it to its audience, as well as for the original contribution that this look provides for a new idea of documentary.
Best picture
Anbessa, Mo Scarpelli
A bright story - not surprisingly photographed by the director herself - which tells with imagination and intelligence a different way of looking at everyday life even in difficult situations, capable of finding a magic key to read the real in the innovation, in the environment and in the energy of a child. The mention for the best photography goes to Anbessa by Mo Scarpelli.
Best editing
Out Loud, Tamara Mamon
The story of Omar, Muhammad and Yazan and their singing teacher Ella, Arab children in an Israeli public school.
Uriya Hertz's editing contributes decisively, with a free and edgy approach and memorable moments to the training narrative in such a contradictory context.
Soundrivemotion Award | Best sound design
Campo, Tiago Hespanha
Campo is an ambitious project, where image, sound and music walk together intertwined, and they lead us between mythological and war situations, distant worlds and transcendence. Music connects all these worlds and becomes a co-star.

Best short doc | "New Italians" Jury
Harmony for after war, Pablo Tosco, Migue Roth
The film “Harmony for after war” has been chosen as best short documentary of the “New Italians” Jury, based on its emotional messages and story that touched all of us. The film gave us a message of hope when seeing that despite the land that is destroyed, a war that has destroyed people’s life, and those two brothers that live in very difficult conditions, the protagonists continued their love for music which has guided them and gave them the strength to go on. Their passion always remained. It reminds us to never give up, and that even when life seems difficult, we should face our difficulties, as they do in the film.
Furthermore, it is not only a film which shows hope, strength and passion, but it is also an inspirational message that encourages to help others when you have the possibility to do so.

15DOC Sole Luna Doc Film Festival winners collection
Online showcase of the Sole Luna Doc Film Festival winner films
This year Sole Luna Doc Film Festival will celebrate fifteen years of activity, an important goal which deserves to be worthily celebrated, to thank the audience who has been following us and has been growing year after year, more and more watchful and demanding. We were going to schedule several events that would accompany us to the 15th edition inauguration, from the 6th to the 12th July, 2020, at Santa Maria dello Spasimo. Things went differently, but we wanted to stay with you the way this suspended time that we are all experiencing allowed us to do. Bring the Doc home, a project for which the directors and the producers involved generously gave their approval, has made, on our website, a selection of documentaries from our archives available for free, and thousands of people have really appreciated our proposal.
The showcase we are proposing today, 15 DOC, is about the prizewinning movies of the 14 Festival editions, from 2006 to 2009, which were awarded by our international juries, different for each edition. It is a privileged opportunity to reread our recent history, with its own contradictions but also its poetry and policies, so as to seek to understand what it has been done and what is left to do. It is our homage to our audience, whom we hope to embrace soon again; it is our contribution and our thanks to the sense of responsibility showed by everyone in these days that we would never have imagined we would experience, which makes us hope – reasonably – that “after” will never be the same again. This is the testimony of our commitment for the creation of a more fair and human society.
The showcase will be held online from the 30th April to the 18th June; the documentaries will be streamed on demand for free from the festival’s website every Tuesday and Thursday, according to the following calendar. Enjoy!
