Apennine is a film diary shot between August 2016 and the same month one year later, covering the year of the earthquakes in the Central Apennines, the mountains in Central Italy. It is an intimate and ironical journey, lyrical and geometric, in which the story of life in a seismic area becomes the instrument for reflecting on the very meaning of documentary filmmaking. Apennine ends Emiliano Dante’s trilogy of the post-earthquake, after Into The Blue (2009) and Habitat. Personal notes (2014).

An autobiographical reflection that wonders about the forms of the contemporary documentary. The humanity and the landscapes of the Rimini’s Skyscraper scrutinized firsthand by one of its inhabitants, in open dialogue with the skyscraper itself (to which the writer Ermanno Cavazzoni gives voice) and his imaginaries. The pop interiors, the psychic drifts, the myths of the mass holyday unrolled from one of the buildings symbol of the Romagna seaside metropolis. 100 meters tall, inaugurated in 1959 as an icon of a confident modernity, today it is a big vertical quarter inhabited by about twenty different nationalities.

This is a stirring story of one cross-cultural family in conflict over religion. Over the course of 5 years, the filmmaker turns the camera on herself and her nearest to shed light on the challenges of living with Islam as a modern day woman. A heartrendering conflict threatens to tear her family apart and it climaxes as she moves through some of life’s major turning points, all caught intimately on camera. «We call “eternals” those who suffer from the melancholy of eternity. Convinced that death cannot triumph over their lives, they believe that they are doomed to wander in anticipation of the day when they will be freed from their existence». This film is a story of wandering and fleeing, on the borders of Nagorno-Karabakh, an Armenian enclave in Azerbaijan. Inhabited by the ghosts of genocide and by the war that has raged there for over twenty years, the characters who pass through this film carry within themselves the melancholy of the eternals.

After his Sundance awardwinning documentary Return to Homs, Talal Derki returned to his homeland where he gained the trust of a radical Islamist family, sharing their daily life for over two years. His camera focuses mainly on the children, providing an extremely rare insight into what it means to grow up with a father whose only dream is to establish an Islamic Caliphate. Osama and his brother Ayman are in the centre of the story. They both love and admire their father and obey his words, but while Osama seems to follow the path of Jihad, Ayman wants to go back to school. The film captures the moment when the children have to let go of their youth and are finally turned into Jihadi fighters.
