Costanza finds out in a lucid dream that the secret to time travelling is to dig. Thus, she persuades her girlfriend Claudia to take her along to the island where she will lead her next archaeological campaign. But a few days before the departure, an unexpected pandemic blocks them in separate houses. Will isolation prevent them from meeting again and discovering what is hidden in the underground?

A narrating voice holds the common thread of an intimate story, which is intertwined with the history of the Ferdinandea Island, born from a sudden eruption in 1830 off the coast of Sciacca, and disappeared after only six months. The short film mixes different materials: the film, a videogame’s gameplay, images shot by a rover to study the seabed.

A director is trying to overcome his fear of losing the old father by shooting the last moments of their life together. This is the narration of Via dell’ombra. Anton, a thirty-year-old young director, has always feared losing his old father. He is afraid of growing up, failing and not being able to live without his protective shadow. But one day, when the ninety-year-old father chooses to retire to a small house full of memories, to die in peace and loneliness, Anton understands that their time together is about to end. Thus, he chooses to move to his house and record with a video camera the last moments of their life together. After many years apart their tormented lives, made of happiness and grief, successes and failures, will intertwine for the last time to prepare themselves to accept the inescapable fate that one day will separate them forever.
